Zebra Hair Dressers approached GES with a clear priority: lighting. In a hair salon, lighting isn't just functional — it directly affects the quality of the work. Colour accuracy, shadow control, and ambience all depend on getting the lighting right. The brief was to design and install a new lighting system that would give the salon precise control over light levels, along with a general services upgrade to support the salon's day-to-day operations.
The Challenge
Salon lighting has to serve two competing demands. During colour services, stylists need bright, neutral light to accurately assess hair colour. During styling and treatments, a softer, warmer ambience creates a better experience for clients. The lighting design had to deliver both, with an easy way for staff to switch between settings without disrupting the salon floor.
Our Solution
We designed a smart lighting system using dimmable fixtures controlled through a dedicated app. This gives Zebra Hair Dressers the ability to adjust light levels across the salon from a phone or tablet — switching between high-output task lighting for colour work and a warmer, dimmed setting for styling and treatments. The app-based control means any member of staff can make adjustments without needing to access a physical control panel. General services including power sockets at each station were installed alongside the lighting.
The Result
The project was completed within three days. Zebra Hair Dressers now has complete control over their salon lighting through an intuitive app — allowing them to set the perfect light level for every service. The smart system has been particularly well received by the colourists, who report a noticeable improvement in their ability to assess colour accuracy under the new lighting.
