GES was brought in to carry out a full rewire of the Insomnia Coffee unit within the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre food court. Working within a busy shopping centre environment, the project required close coordination with centre management and adherence to strict working-hours restrictions. Every element of the electrical installation was replaced — from data and CCTV infrastructure to fire alarm, emergency lighting, and all general power and lighting circuits.
The Challenge
Fitting out a unit within an active shopping centre food court introduces constraints that don't apply to standalone premises. Access was restricted to outside trading hours, requiring careful sequencing to maximise productive time during each working window. The existing installation had to be fully stripped before any new work could begin, and all fire alarm and emergency lighting systems had to remain operational throughout the transition to avoid impacting the wider centre's life safety systems.
Our Solution
We planned the project in tight daily phases, with each evening shift focused on a specific system to ensure continuous progress. Data and CCTV infrastructure were installed on the first two days alongside the main cable runs. The fire alarm was integrated with the shopping centre's main panel under supervision of the centre's fire safety officer. Emergency lighting was tested and commissioned independently before the general fit out was completed. All sockets, lighting, and power circuits were installed and tested within the five-day programme.
The Result
The Insomnia unit was handed over fully operational within the five-day programme — on time for the scheduled reopening. All data, CCTV, fire alarm, and emergency lighting systems were tested and certified, and the unit was trading again with zero disruption to the wider food court.
