A Father & Son With a Spark
Every business has an origin story, but ours starts in the most ordinary way possible — a father and son from Ballyfermot who decided to go out on their own. Patrick Sr spent years serving in the Irish Defence Forces and Air Corps before retraining as a qualified electrician. That military discipline — the attention to detail, the pride in doing things properly, the refusal to cut corners — became the foundation of everything we do at Gorman Electrical Services.
We didn't start with a grand plan. There was no investor pitch or business consultant. It was just the two of us, one van, and a belief that if we turned up on time, did honest work, and treated every customer the way we'd want to be treated ourselves, word would spread. Our first jobs were attic conversions around Dublin — wiring up new rooms, installing lighting, making sure everything was safe and certified. Nothing glamorous, but we gave every job everything we had.
Growing Into House Rewiring Specialists
It didn't take long before customers started asking us to take on bigger work. Full house rewires across Dublin, Meath, Wicklow, and Kildare became our bread and butter. We quickly earned a reputation as reliable, transparent electricians who could rewire a home without turning your life upside down. Hundreds of homeowners across Dublin and the surrounding counties have trusted us to bring their wiring up to modern standards — safely, on time, and without hidden costs.
As demand grew, we knew we couldn't do it all ourselves. So we brought on additional electricians — not just anyone, but some of the best in the country. Every member of our team is Safe Electric certified, fully insured, and shares the same values that got us started. We don't hire to fill seats; we hire people we'd trust in our own homes.
Commercial Fit-Outs & Beyond
With a bigger team and a growing reputation, we expanded into commercial electrical work. Today, we've completed fit-outs for some of the most well-known businesses in Dublin — from retail units and offices to restaurants and hospitality venues. The same standards we apply to a family home, we bring to every commercial project: meticulous planning, clean workmanship, and zero shortcuts.
Building Tools That Actually Help People
One thing we've always believed in is looking at where other trades fall short — and doing something about it. We listen to our customers. We pay attention to the general frustration people have when dealing with electricians: the difficulty getting a straight answer on price, the hassle of booking a small job, the lack of transparency. Instead of just nodding along, we built solutions.
We launched a dedicated maintenance team and built an entire online portal so anyone in Dublin can upload a video of a small job — a broken socket, a faulty light, a new switch — and get a quote sent back within hours. No phone tag, no waiting around for someone to show up just to give you a price.
We also developed our online house rewire estimator, so homeowners can see the true cost of a full rewire from the comfort of their own home — no appointment needed, no pressure, just honest pricing upfront. These aren't gimmicks. They're tools we built because we genuinely believe the electrical industry needs to do better, and we want to be the ones pushing it forward.
Still a Family Business at Heart
As GES has grown, so has the family behind it. Pat's son Robert — my brother — has started his apprenticeship with us, learning the trade from the ground up. Our partners help run the office and keep everything behind the scenes ticking over. And the staff we've brought on board over the years? They're not just colleagues — they're genuine friends. We look after our people because that's how you build a team that actually cares about the work they do.
If you'd told us a few years ago that a typical father and son from Ballyfermot would end up winning national awards and running a team of 15 across Dublin, we'd have laughed. But here we are. And what matters most to us isn't the trophies or the fleet of vans — it's that we built something together. We went from father and son to best friends. Closer than ever. Proud of what we've created, but always keeping our feet on the ground.
Giving Back — The Spark Of Giving
None of this means anything if we're not helping the people around us. We sponsor local football teams in the community, and every Christmas we run our Spark Of Giving charity — where we carry out electrical work completely free of charge for people who genuinely need the help but can't afford it. Elderly residents, vulnerable families, people who've been left in unsafe conditions — we show up, we do the work, and we don't charge a cent. That's what's truly important to us.
We're always on the lookout for new ways to work, new ways to raise the standard across our industry, and new ways to make people's lives easier. But no matter how far we go, we'll always be a family business from Dublin that believes in doing things the right way — for our customers, for our community, and for each other.
