Gorman Electrical Services was appointed to carry out a complete rewire of the entire ground floor and top floor of Harcourt Dental Clinic, a busy dental surgery on Harcourt Street in Dublin 2. The project required specialist electrical work to support medical-grade equipment including X-ray machines and surgical units, while also delivering a high-end aesthetic through designer light fittings that complemented the clinic's modern interior.
The Challenge
A dental surgery presents unique electrical requirements that go well beyond a standard commercial fit out. X-ray machines demand dedicated, interference-free circuits with specific earthing arrangements. Surgical equipment requires clean, stable power supplies that cannot be affected by other loads on the distribution board. The designer light fittings specified by the clinic's interior architect required careful coordination to ensure the electrical infrastructure could support the range of decorative and functional lighting planned across both floors — all within a tight two-week programme.
Our Solution
We assigned a dedicated team to the project from day one, working closely with the dental equipment supplier to ensure every circuit met the manufacturer's specifications for the X-ray machines and surgical units. Dedicated circuits with individual RCBOs were installed for all medical equipment, isolated from the general lighting and power circuits. The designer light fittings — including large teardrop wall sconces and decorative pendants — were installed on dimmer circuits to allow the clinic to adjust ambience between treatment areas and reception. Emergency lighting was installed throughout to full IS 3218 compliance, and structured DATA cabling was run to all workstations and treatment rooms.
The Result
The project was completed within the two-week programme. The clinic reopened with a fully compliant electrical installation supporting all medical equipment, a striking lighting design that has drawn positive comments from patients and staff, and structured cabling that supports the clinic's digital X-ray workflow and patient management system.
